Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU)

Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a specialized section of our Hospital that provides comprehensive continuous care for critically ill patients requiring close monitoring. The Medical ICU, which is a 14 bedded Intensive Care Unit, has been upgraded to world-class standards with fully equipped high-end Monitors, Ventilators, and a Central monitor. There is also provision for dialysis in the ICU.

Residents trained in the care of critically ill patients manage the medical ICU round the clock. For every two patients, there is a specially trained qualified Nursing staff. Respiratory Physiotherapist mans all respiratory-related tasks.

This ICU has gained wide popularity as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients, not only for the city of Bengaluru but also for the neighboring states. We have treated patients with sepsis, poisonings, attempted suicides, and post-OP patients with multiple medical conditions, to name a few. Outstanding results have been experienced at our ICU with XYGRIS (Dotrecogin Alpha-Activated Protein C). This is a life-saving parenteral drug used to treat patients with sepsis with two or more organ failures.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

The department of neonatal has a fully equipped NICU unit headed by Neonatologist Dr. Shivaleela.S, Patil. Here we have facilities for both level II and level III neonatal care. Inborn babies who need NICU care will be immediately shifted from the lab room/ward to NICU.

Sick babies are also retrieved from other hospitals for further management. On the call, an ambulance will be sent to the respective hospital with a staff nurse accompanied by the pediatrician on duty with resuscitative equipment. The total bed strength of the NICU is 8, and 4 ventilators are currently available 6 phototherapy units with facilities of double surface phototherapy are also existing. One transport incubators are available.

Procedures at VSH are

Mechanical ventilation with cardiorespiratory support for risk preterm / term sick babies for preterm babies with respiratory distress syndrome
Exchange transfusion for severely icteric babies
Partial exchange for polycythemic babies
Routine preterm care
All routine and special lab investigations
All newborn babies are subjected to metabolic screening tests for relevant common metabolic disorders by capillary blood sampling.

Other facilities available

We have a senior pediatric surgery consultant who is on call and will be visiting newborns who require pediatric surgery consultants.
We also receive pediatric surgery post-operative cases.
A pediatric ophthalmologist is visiting our unit and will do screening for all preterm babies.
Mothers are taught the art of preterm baby care, breastfeeding, and palate feeds by the experienced staff nurse.
Parents are free to call the pediatric registrar on duty at any time of the day and can solve their queries.
Pediatric registrars covering NICU 24/7 will inform the consultant of the progress of the babies admitted.
Neonatal follow-up will be done for all NICU graduates in OPD subsequently.
We also have a tie-up with Vydehi Medical College.

Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)

Surgical Intensive Care unite is a well-equipped Intensive Care unit for all post-operative surgical cases who need ICU care. SICU has 14 beds with high-end monitors, ventilators, central monitors, and provision for dialysis.

SICU provides care for all trauma patients who need close monitoring, both pre-operatively and post-operatively ill patients. The Registrars / Residents and the nursing staff are trained in the patient care of critically ill patients. We have a step-down Neuro ICU to take care of trauma patients who require close monitoring for a long period.

Neuro Intensive Care Unit (Neuro ICU)

Any patient who requires long-term patient care after initial monitoring and treatment in ICU or patient who requires step-down ICU care, especially patients with neurological deficits, are closely monitored and treated in our Neuro ICU. It is a four bedded care unit with state-of-the-art technology, equipped with high-end monitors and continuous oxygen support, and manned by trained doctors and nursing staff.

Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

Coronary Care Unit is a specialized section of our Hospital that provides comprehensive continuous care for critically ill patients requiring close monitoring. The coronary care unit is 12 a bedded intensive care unit with well-trained nursing staff with a ratio of one nurse to two patients. The CCU has been recently upgraded to world-class standards with fully equipped high-end Monitors, Ventilators, and a Central monitor. There is also a provision for dialysis in CCU.

Residents trained in the care of critically ill patients manage the coronary care unit around the clock.

CCU at VSH Hospital has gained wide popularity as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients, not only for the city of Bengaluru but also for the neighboring states and countries. Patients with Unstable angina, Acute MI, Cardiogenic shock, complete heart block, LVF, CHF, Cardiomyopathy, and uncontrolled hypertension are regularly treated.

Mechanical ventilation with cardiorespiratory support
Bedside IABP implantation for critical patients
Bedside temporary pacing, DC shock, and cardioversion
Bedside pericardiocentesis

Intensive Cardiac Care Unit (ICCU)

Our ICCU is a specialized post-surgical care unit for our high-risk cardiac surgeries. It is a five bedded high-end unit with touchscreen monitors and invasive outputs. We cater to in our ICCU, Post Operative Beating Coronary Bypass Graft surgeries (OP-CABG), Valve replacement surgeries ( MVR, AVR, DVR), pediatric congenital heart surgeries (ASD, VSD), and Aneurismal surgeries with full-fledged dedicated nursing staff for their type of complex cardiac surgeries.

We have a 24-hour backup of ventilators, Intra aortic balloon pump (IABP), and a dialysis bed to cater to our emergencies.
